Ohio National Judge’s Message – Caleb Thomas
Wow!!! What a show! If you missed The National Thrianta show in Columbus Ohio you missed one of the finest gatherings of Thriantas ever. Nearly 250 animals exhibited in both open and youth and 80 fur entries crossed the table. And how you may ask, do you know that was one of the finest gatherings ever? Because I handled every single one of them. I knew as soon as I started looking at the senior bucks in the youth competition, that this day was going to be one that was going to be extra special in terms of quality of animals, and I was not disappointed from my first senior buck in youth to my last junior doe in open. The things that impressed me most were the consistency of very good quality ears and the uniform fire red color that so many of the animals possessed. The quality of the heads have certainly improved since the last time I judged your national show. The depth of the classes were extremely deep from the largest senior classes to the only slightly smaller junior classes. Again, I was very impressed with the quality from end to end.
With nearly 330 entries to be judged, all knew that it was going to be an all-day affair. But, thanks to so much good help in the clerking area and especially those dedicated runners who made sure that the rabbits were on the table on time and departed the table as soon as they were placed made my job so much easier. I didn't have to worry about rabbits being left on the table, rabbits not making it to the table, or checking for missing rabbits as this show was run like a well-oiled machine.
I want to thank the Midwest Thrianta Breeders for hosting such a nice show, and for inviting me to be your judge for this grand event. Thank you also for the nice made in Ohio basket that was awarded to me at the end of the show. That was a very nice touch that is not afforded us judges very often. It was truly appreciated!
This show is probably one for the record books and one that will be talked about for a long time.
Again, excellent animals, excellent exhibitors, excellent help, And an excellent show! Thanks again for having me judge your show, and I wish you the very best as you promote the Fire of the Fancy.
